What can a job do for you?

When it's all about what you can bring to the table, it's important to remember what you're getting out of it too.

First time job hunting? Or just the first time in a while? It's natural to feel a bit nervous. But we’re here to help turn those nerves into curiosity.

Jobs can do a lot more for you than you than simply provide an income. They can also:

  1. Let you experience life in a team . When you work with other people and help each other out, it can be a real bonding experience. Especially when you have a few laughs along the way too.
  2. Offer training and learning opportunities . Feeling like you’re growing and developing can be a real boost to your self-esteem. And when your employer is paying for training and learning opportunities, it can be a boost to your CV too!
  3. Broaden your horizons . Maybe your job will offer you the chance to travel. Or perhaps you’ll work alongside or support people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds. New experiences and new ways of thinking could be waiting.
  4. Give you a sense of purpose and identity . OK, this might sound like a stretch, but hear us out. Sometimes, when someone asks what you do, you might find a real sense of identity when you tell them, “I’m a …". Or you may not. Either’s fine. But if you feel like your job matters and that you’re important to it, then you’ll experience a sense of purpose.
  5. Give you job satisfaction. Turning up and spending your time helping your colleagues, clients or customers? Using your time, skills, enthusiasm and experience to make a difference is a recipe for job satisfaction.
