About the job
What it's like
In this job, you'll install and repair smart gas and electricity meters in homes and businesses.
Smart meters help customers keep track of how much energy they use in real time and which appliances use the most power. As a smart meter installer, you'll help customers reduce their energy use and manage their bills.
Your tasks might include:
visiting the customer at their home or business
removing the existing meter
fitting and testing the new smart meter
connecting the meter to the heating and hot water systems
explaining how to use the meter and answering any questions
giving energy efficiency advice to customers
You could work for one of the big energy companies or for a smaller firm. You would not have to sell energy plans or tariffs.
All smart meter installers must understand safe working practices.
