Job purpose: Join our team as a Welder/Fabricator Apprentice at a specialist vehicle manufacturer and gain hands-on experience building custom metal components for high-performance vehicles. This Modern Apprenticeship includes day or block release to college to gain a recognised qualification in fabrication and welding. You’ll learn to read technical drawings, cut and shape metal, operate welding equipment, and assemble structural parts, all while working under the guidance of experienced professionals. Safety, teamwork, and precision are key to this role. Due to the nature of the work, PVG membership and security clearance are required. Start your career in a growing and vital industry.

What will I learn? As a Welder/Fabricator Apprentice, you’ll learn a wide range of practical and technical skills essential to metal fabrication and specialist vehicle manufacturing. These include reading and interpreting engineering drawings, measuring and marking out materials, cutting and shaping metal, and performing MIG/TIG welding to industry standards. You’ll also develop skills in using hand and power tools, working with various metals, and assembling structural components accurately and safely. Health and safety awareness, teamwork, attention to detail, and problem-solving are key areas of focus. Through hands-on experience and college training, you’ll gain the foundation for a skilled and rewarding engineering career. A typical day as a Welder/Fabricator Apprentice starts with a team briefing to plan tasks and review safety procedures. You'll then move into the workshop, working alongside skilled fabricators to cut, shape, and weld metal components used in specialist vehicle builds. You may be involved in assembling brackets, frames, or internal structures, using MIG/TIG welding techniques and various tools. Throughout the day, you'll read technical drawings, check measurements, and follow quality standards. You’ll be supported by mentors, gaining hands-on experience while building your skills. Every day offers new challenges, helping you grow in confidence and ability within a fast-paced environment.

What qualifications or qualities are required? • A minimum of 3 National Level 5 qualifications which include Maths & English • Preferably but not essential a foundation apprenticeship. • Ability to work both within a team and under own initiative. • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills through education and extra curricula activities. • A basic understanding of health and safety. • A pre-enrolment Engineering assessment will be arranged, and successful candidates must achieve the required pass mark before enrolment on the college apprenticeship course.
